It's my DJ Fu~chan! The ode to our favourite DJ on his birthday.

There. I did the obligatory fan photoshop card. But doesn't he look so lonely there? ;o;
All Rip Slyme fans (and possibly Halcali fans) are exploding today. Fumiya is 27 years old today. He shares the same birthday as Ilmari's nephew (happy birthday too kid) and remarks that maybe boys born on this day are destined to be DJs. It's funny how far away he is from that age of 30 - while Ilmari & Ryo-Z have already celebrated theirs. Yes Fumiya is still young. hip, and awesome. And he and Ilmari could have a showdown on who looks even more bored in their performances.
I did a little reading on Fumiya, though I did quit and skip some parts that were deemed tricky. But his life is interesting. Damn interesting. He only joined Rip Slyme when he was around 18. But he started his DJ job in 16 when his brother bought him some samplers. That must mean that he only started DJing then and already landed the Speed job in the span of two years. Well it did help that his brother was a backup dancer of East End and he got to be the disciple of DJ Yoggy of East End. But Fumiya shines a certain brilliance that you don't get anywhere else. His great sense of music and he knows how to use his resources - he doesn't waste it and make half assed tunes to fill bsides. He actually didn't enjoy being the DJ for SPEED and thought he wasn't very good at it. But he was passionate enough to go on. Su even remarks that Fumiya was already such a mature kid by then.
So here is my little love for Fumiya. Creepy but gets the job done. And the Stepper's Delight comparison is going to be done later. I might do it today. Who knows. It's an excuse to pour over my DVDs again really. I actually had over 30 screenshots of Fumiya. But I decided to cut it to one per PV. I don't want to be excessive.

Fumiya looks a bit lost in Stepper's Delight. Though what I love about Fumiya in this is that when he plays table tennis, his bat is done with his vinyls. It's original, funny and he's not that bad at it. He definitely oozes with little personality. He looks boring and easily overlooked. Hell he looks like misc DJ who is added into the Jpop PVs to make the party look rad. But god Fumiya, do I love you now.

Okay when I said Fumiya was hip, I didn't mean fashion wise. Actually he makes some terrible choices in life. Just like this one. The hat needs to go. But it's sad that Fumiya tends to have a multitude of these. Though there are some beanies that looks okay on him, the floppy hat is just so... daggy. I mean did he give up learning how to dress so he could DJ? I hope not. I love this shot in Zatsunen Entertainment. It just focuses on him as he does his swish DJ tricks. And sometimes he looks up to acknowledge the camera. There's two times where he licks his lips (I caught it but it doesn't really show up there) in a snake like way. And it almost looks quite evil.

Maybe he thought people liked the hat. If I were his wife, I'd probably take all those hats and burn them in a bonfire. Don't worry, I exchanged sexual favours so he wouldn't be too sad. One is a very contemplative PV. And it almost seems alright that he doesn't have any shots completely of him (there is one but it's not much). He's got such a sweet face for this stuff.

I call this the ultimate "poor Fumiya" PV. There's even a moment where they push him around so hard that the camera shakes. At least this time the hat is decent. When the guys take off their jumpsuits, Fumiya has the most boring costume underneath. I mean Su looks like a gangster, Pes is covered with bling. And Fumiya? He looks like a hotel clerk. He just wears a regular suit. Though it's funny how I liked that effect when he wore it for the Masterpiece Tour.

I had so much trouble deciding which one from this PV I was to use. I settled on this one. Why? Because I love Fumiya's glare in this. Sure the shot's not too clear. But it's almost as if he's glaring at Ilmari going "the hell." Again, I did say I would love to see a showdown between these guys on who looks more stoned. But I think sometimes Fumiya wins by miles. Fumiya as well does his own percussion for his music. I guess he's naturally good with it what with his DJ work.

Again I chose this picture for his expression. I mean since this guy seems to never have an expression I found it quite necessary to highlight things such as this. I love the little race of the guys. It's so cliche yet seems to amount to fun in Rip Slyme. It's almost cute the way Pes slips and falls down. But Fumiya as he seems super eager to beat Ilmari. shows us the wildest he'll ever get.

I love the concept of the turntables in the PV. He flips the wooden boards over and bam. Vinyls and a turntable. I mean it was originally a rotating platform for the sushi. And he pulls open some cupboard doors and there's some speakers. Swish huh? Nonetheless I have to say it's quite amusing how Fumiya looks the part in this PV as the Sushi guy. I mean it must have been his second career if he never got the DJ gig. I'd go to his restaurant everyday.

Dandelion is probably one of my favourites. Hell I'd say it could be my favourite. It follows the story of one girl, mad at her father - decides to take a walk from home to find herself. The father is torn, trying to see what he did wrong. Whereas the girl, as she witnesses other people around her in this world, realises the foolishness of her contempt and decides that it wasn't so bad after all. I love the portrayal of the people. I mean Ilmari & Pes are those guys who give out free tissues advertising a business and while the girl walks right past them without looking at them, Ilmari shoves some tissues right in the hood of her coat. Su is the guy who draws a little lion face on balloons that decorate the sign advertising a new apartment. And the girl catches one stray balloon. Ryo-Z plays the strange guy in a glitzy tracksuit as he tries to out-powerwalk an old couple - much to the amusement of the girl as she watches from behind.
Oh and Fumiya. His appearance is quite interesting. He's a postman, he even has the dorky helmet that goes with it. But he decides to stop for a break while working. And well - if anyone wanted to know why Fumiya got really sick it was probably the smoking. I mean if you're really sick, I'd hate to worsen the pain by smoking. But apart from that, it switches from scenes of the girl skipping rocks and Fumiya skipping rocks. Fumiya's not that bad at it either. But it's such a simple action, something you do to pass time. And in the PV it adds such a nice impact.

Wow. Fumiya in a vest looks kinda old. But cool. He almost looks like a middle aged man there. But here is the 2004 Fumiya in all his glory. Maybe it was that vest that got him really sick. Who knows? All I know is that it really has to go eventually. The PV is quite cute - finger puppets wooing one woman. But finger puppet Fumiya has no activity in that. He looks bored and sings along in the chorus with bored "yeah. yeah. yeah."

And to my last shot of this, Tasogare Surround. I like to call this the stylish Fumiya PV. Maybe his fiancee started to do something about it. He has great hair too. I mean it's all sort of mullet-ish but cool enough to look like a rock star (like Ajikan's Gotoh?). I loved watching the making of this when they had to make Fumiya run for his life so he could make it to the next turntable before the singer/cameras did. I wish they wore more suits. They do it at some music award shows but just not enough.
Now to finish off, a letter to Fumiya that will never be sent:
Dear Fumiya,
You're a great DJ, write some more songs.
Don't dump Halcali, they're really cool.
But if you dump your wife, we'll be kinda happy.
Come back to Rip Slyme, you're needed there.
And Pes can't write all the songs,
he's a big perv.

Happy 27th Birthday Fumiya! May your days be merry, and stuff like that! And don't be too shy! You're full of sex appeal!
P.S. If you're short on cash - I'd be willing to buy a jacket of yours for an amazing amount of cash.

.. i read the whole thing... it is just brilliant the way you picture fu-chan... and the lovely letter at the end it is just perfect... i really hope he gets back to the band... cuz i dont wanna go to the MDFII and not seeing him...
we miss you fu-chan
So you'll be catching the tour? Tell me how it goes! I love hearing how people feel about the concerts. Especially when they left out Fumiya's announcement that he was getting married out of the Masterpiece tour dvd. That kinda blows since it wowed me just reading it.
I think Fumiya's detatched look kinda goes with the job of being a DJ. There isnt much to do, but focus on the turn tables. The MCs really have the job of moving around and getting people excited.
I think the main thing was that this guy is so quiet and so mellow compared to some DJs in the business (some look like DJing requres you to go nuts). But he is undoubtedly greatly admired. It's interesting since he sort of hides in the background but is able to draw everyone in what he does.
For example there's DJ Soma who always seems very focused in his DJ work and probably comes closer to the "hardcore DJ image" whereas Fumiya sometimes looks away while he's scratching.
Nonetheless I think we can all agree that Fumiya's some sort of demigod.
