The 2005 Rip Slyme

It was either this or my other planned article about how Ilmari's hot enough to sell Teriyaki Boyz. But I decided it was time to write something less fangirl-filled. Well let's be fair - this is going to be quite biased already but I'm trying my best here okay?

It's quite sad really, Rip Slyme is such a quiet group. They avoid being tabloid fodder - only reporting things such as marriages. Fumiya's marriage broke some hearts after all. But in a way it's a pain to find Rip Slyme news apart from their official things. They lead such private lives, Su's probably living the married life and Fumiya must be looking at some nice family houses (you know what I mean!). These guys may be associated with huge names - but it almost seems like just a professional thing. They don't go to parties, they don't do all that much. And for that I hate them and love them at the same time.

2005 was the quietest year for Rip Slyme. Finishing up their 2004 Masterpiece Tour, they were last heard being chosen for their single "Stepper's Delight" to be featured on an Asia Nike commercial (something Japanese artists apparently rarely get to do).

They came back to the new year announcing that they weren't complete bastards and were releasing a 2 disc DVD set - with a cover designed by some guy Geoff McFetridge - apparently he does lots of things but who really cares? They even released a little phone strap with the DVD for all the fans - something that is selling on yahoo auctions right now too.

And everyone was waiting for a new single. Like what a better way to celebrate a DVD release with a new single? Well the guys instead went to an assortment of music shows, their yearly trip to the MTV Music Awards Japan & the Space Shower Music Awards. And then the guys were chosen to be featured in a commercial for "Tekken 5" no doubt something that made many fans excited.

Next was another commercial thing, their song "Super Shooter" - popular from it's days as the opening tune for anime Gantz - was chosen for the Kirin Cup Soccer "Image Song". Ahaha - Super Shooter. Get it?

The rest was just too painful to mention. They started doing their rounds for popular concerts - such as Rock in Japan Festival, Summer Sonic and the sorts. And they did announce a release finally. But it was a Best of Album. Okay - fair's fair. They've been in the Warner business for five years. But people wanted new music.

Sadly bad news hit the group Fumiya got sick. Now let's pull it back together. Halcali's Twinkle Star was finished in September. In a possibly wild guess. Fumiya got hospitalised -badly- and he
kept his promise. You gotta love a man like that. Pity no girl will ever have him any more. After all, Fumiya is known to be a little sickly. However juggling his OTF commitments, "Best of" Album work and the tours - he just... keeled over. So Fumiya's out of the game for now. DJ Soma steps in - the apparent childhood friend.

Nigo recruits Ilmari & Ryo-Z for Teriyaki Boyz - the news perks interest. But it as well spells no new singles for Rip Slyme. School of Lock! gets Rip Slyme to fill in the Monday spot - rejoicement for most people as that means more Rip Slyme love. Fumiya is still dead- er... I mean sick.

Teriyaki Boyz was the main topic for now - which is kind of sad since Pes & Su are pushed aside. However Su is probably living his happy married life while Pes seeks for work such as the clothes label Optimystik.

What's that? A Christmas reissue of the best of album? Ludicrous! It's near the end of the year and nothing is made! And to make up for it is an MTV VIP Concert. Not really. It makes up for nothing! Thanks a lot bastards!

And Hot Chocolate came. Cheesy title really. AND a Mash Up Project with Hotei?

Blablabla. Thus ends the 2005 Rip Slyme. But there's no scandals, no excitement life writings. Nothing.

And you know what made Rip Slyme fans sad.
