Planet of the Bapes [Youtube surfing - it's addictive]

I stumbled across this randomly and since this isn't tagged with any of the Teriyaki Boyz but still features them, I was very interested to hear it.
Bape Sounds Allsta!!! - Planet of the Bapes is a video that is probably made most likely to promote the album that had been earlier released, Nigo Presents (B)ape Sounds and was the key end song to the album? Why? Not only does it feature every artist under the label, it as well isagain produced by the super duo Neptunes. The following artists featured on are: Ytr*, Ignitionman, Pocyomkin, Yoshi, Boy-Ken. Hi-D, Keyco, Ani, Cq, Wise, Ilmari, Verbal, Ryo-Z, Dj Kaori, Gore-Tex. I had no idea of these artists but a quick google filled me in that more than half of these guys are one of the biggest names in music. DJ Kaori, for example struck me as a strange voice who doesn't seem to sing or rap however she is pretty much a DJ - apart from having DJed for people such as Mike Tyson and many celebrities of US.

These are the people who have hit it big - the ones who write or play in the background and have risen above the facade of variety shows and the oricon charts. In the end - these guys have seen the whole game from above - like a chessboard. While Rip Slyme are playing in the pop fields - having fun, these guys are standing right where they are, hip hop maybe? It seems that being on the Bape label can win you the help of big hip hop names.

Now enough of these people and back onto the song. What is so mesmerising about this tune? It's got so much life into that simple loop on repeat and the drum beat. I realised and thought what a smart bastard Nigo pretty much was. That Chou Large song that was on the Beef or Chicken album was a regular tune that was made through the old Pharrel machine. But Planet of the Bapes is one that obviously was given time and money to. This is the song that should have been on the Teriyaki Boyz album. This is what showed that Japanese rap & hiphop has progressed much from the East End's "Da Yo Ne".

The song asks each artist to be individual. YTR starts with a simple line, rougly about becoming a monkey and dancing. It sounds ridiculous but he adds ina melodic element to it - something I believed that the Teriyaki Boyz' album seemed to lack a song like that. While they were all fun - it'd be nice for them to try it out. Ilmari & Ryo-Z are perfectly capable, Verbal could manage and Wise has shown to be a somewhat able singer. However apart from asking from a play on melody - something that might seem petty since these talented rappers are able to do more than just that. This song accentuates the delivery of each artist. It has such a distinct beat that allows the rapper to keep in time but as well add their own style & rhythm. This song is perfect in showcasing the talents of each artist. And it's not even a very hardcore hiphop song or anything. It's got a very catchy pop feel to it. And isn't that what the Teriyaki Boyz had wanted to create? A pop accentuated style? This is definitely the Neptunes song I'd rather have on the Teriyaki Boyz album. I think apart from pulling in overseas big names to produce this music, they should have allowed local names to have their go at it. Yes this is me still lamenting over the disappearance of Fumiya. But he would have rocked that album like no other - and it would have been an exciting thought to see them meet and create something. You either love or hate these Teriyaki Boyz. Though I think it's mainly because of the big names that come into it that overshadow it. The album just sounds like it wants to sell purely because of that. But one review mentions, that the album is just a bunch of big names having fun - but at least you're included in on it.

I am tempted to preorder that Teriyaki Boyz DVD now - no matter how much I feel that I don't love them enough. I mean I love each MC dearly and I am quite interested in the way the Tour works in contrast to the Rip Slyme ones (who would just fool around half the time).

Apart from that, I remember distinctly that there was a Music Station performance of Rip Slyme's Joint on Youtube but seems to have been removed. I am broken and now would like anyone who has it to stand up! (or something like that)
