Fumiya was trying to tell us something... How Halcali is Fumiya's journal.

Hrmmm I never noticed that anonymous posting was turned off so now you're free to make comments without an account! So post away with your thoughts on Rip Slyme! Or things you'd like me to do with the site (apart from making it stop sucking. I'm working on that.)
Anyhow let me start today's post with the words Fumiya told the crowd on the last day of the Masterpiece tour. These words got me really thinking. Not just about Fumiya's attitude overall but as well the time placement of his wedding.

「去年の秋に結婚しました。
相手は・・・普通の人です。これからもこれからもいい曲を変わらず作って行くので応援よろしくお願いします。」
(Roughly: I got married last year in autumn. My partner is... an ordinary person. From now on, if the tunes I make change please cheer me on.)

So he registered the marriage on the 28th of 2004. But his marriage was in 2003 Autumn, around September to November. Actually I'd like to talk a bit of how he described his wife. A regular person. I mean he should be saying how great his wife is. The fact that he says that really puts some people in awe. Maybe he's expressing how he's like his wife to be normal. But he's as well making the fans think "He married someone regular... Just like us?"

Or something like that. I dunno. Anyhow here's my main feature: Halcali's tunes could represent Fumiya. Well it is pretty much Fumiya's stuff. It's HIS music that he makes. But his comment with the music changing makes me think maybe he was afraid it had already happened. And Halcali's lyrics (the Ryo-Z ones) are very stylised. They represent the style of the girls initially, Ryo-Z seems to be pretty good at that. But they at times reflect Ryo-Z. I mean I remember thinking "Woah this is like if Ryo-Z were a girl."

Fumiya's a genious with music. Not just Rip Slyme & Halcali stuff. If you ever listen to a tune like R.E.M. from the Five album, you get a gist of what is Fumiya. The album overall was very experimental but it really shows how much Fumiya's creative juices can flow. It's a great ambient piece. I almost thought that I was listening to the regular radio. I mean this is the stuff that people weep after. Now if Fumiya got married, he'd be pretty stoked. And the rest of the RS crew would probably be encouraging him.

So let's pull in the Gold Disk winning tune Strawberry Chips (2003.11.26). My theory is that Ryo-Z wanted to shape Fumiya's thoughts (the song is most likely made just before he's about to get married.). I mean out of most songs, this is probably the most direct words I've heard from Ryo-Z. Ryo-Z likes to beat around the bush, bring in a clever play on words or two. But love? This bittersweet love song just sounds beautiful coming from the Halcali girls.

Halcali dressed as champagne girls? A celebration of sorts? I think in a way it's too much of a coincidence. I wonder if Fumiya had thoughts like the song? Well imagine it in more of a masculine viewpoint. To take an example, from centigrade-j's archive of translated Halcali lyrics, a line from Strawberry Chips.

Oh single jingle playin... damn
This is broken, that things got this way

There. Fustration of sorts. And later in the song is:

before my very eyes, this love is victorious
several days since we ran into each other

Well doesn't that seem so dramatic? So novel? I mean Ryo-Z's lyrics are usually a lot more light hearted and leave the listener to make up their own version of the true message of the song. Hell I like him just for making an Amelie reference (in Marching March). But the lyrics of Strawberry Chips are so... sharp. The words don't let you adapt it to anything. It's there. A love song. And one of the greatest love songs. Maybe next to One. Or Hot Chocolate. Screw you- Hot Chocolate's a love song. They even say so!

But Strawberry Chips is quite an interesting song. I mean Ryo-Z's shown that he's more than able to write love song lyrics with his expert style. He's refined the ideas and given what is some words that should be sold to Koda Kumi. The concept of sweet & sour strawberry chips, cream and whatnot.

It's a very subdued song in terms of its structure and whatnot. But maybe while Fumiya made a love filled tune, Ryo-Z gave his lyrics in what is a celebratory congratulations. Everyone seems to be giving Fumiya and his wife the best of luck.

That wraps up this week... Unless I decide to post again tomorrow. Nonetheless my current thoughts are on what to expect of the upcoming Teribari DVD...
